What Does A Life Worthy Of The Gospel Look Like?
How does following Jesus transform your daily life? Does your connection with Jesus inspire your daily life choices, actions, and decisions, or are you a believer only on Sundays and holidays?
The life of Jesus, as portrayed in the gospels, is the ultimate model of Christian living. Emulating Christ’s example remains the responsibility of Jesus’s followers today.
Living as Christians, or Little Christ, in a fallen world often dismissive or even hostile to Jesus’s teachings can be an uphill battle. The good news is that the Father has given the Holy Spirit to guide us and his word as a map to life as followers of Jesus.
In Philippians 1:27a, Paul writes,
Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
Paul’s words here prompt the question, what is a life lived in a manner worthy of the gospel? The logical place to start is with the word Gospel.
The word “Gospel” comes from the Hebrew verb bisser and the noun besorah. New Testament Greek renders it as euangelion from the roots Eu meaning good, and angelion meaning news or announcement.
So, the word Gospel simply means good news.
